Have you been looking to take a holiday to Puerto Vallarta in Mexico but you are not sure when the best time is to visit? This post will explain the best time to visit, the different seasons, when you’re likely to see rain, the warmest months, and the best and worst times to visit.

What’s the general climate in Puerto Vallarta?

Puerto Vallarta’s climate is mainly tropical which means it experiences a warm and humid climate year-round. There are however distinct seasons and weather patterns.

High Season: Ideal for sun-seekers.

If you’re seeking the best conditions to bask in the sun on the stunning beaches and join in on lively festivals and events held in the city, then book your flight for the high season! From December to April, this period attracts a sizable influx of tourists seeking a sunny escape from colder climates. The weather during this time is pleasantly warm, with minimal rainfall and plenty of sunshine.

Off-Season weather: Ideal for exploring and avoiding crowds.

Between May and June, and Late October to November, the weather is generally pleasant with slightly lower temperatures than in the high season. This is the ideal time to visit if you still want holiday weather but with less of the tourist crowd. These months are ideal for exploring as the temperatures are more manageable and it’s not peak tourist season.

Rainy Season: Ideal for avoiding crowds.

The low season runs from July to September. While the temperatures may still be favourable these months are classed as the rainy season. Don’t be put off by the term ‘rainy season’. While rainfall may be more frequent, it usually is short-lived. Any rain shower is likely to move on quickly allowing you to go about your business. It is in the low season the prices for accommodation are lower and more affordable.

Additional opportunities in the Low Season.

As mentioned above, the rainfall during the low season is short-lived and often occurs in the late afternoon or evening. Plan activities for the morning and midday, allowing the afternoons and evenings for relaxation.

Considering what time of year to take a holiday to Puerto Vallarta is key to making the most of this wonderful holiday destination. While the best weather can be experienced off-season, the low, rainy season shouldn’t be dismissed either.

Many factors need to be considered. If you want to go out and explore the sites and do activities, aim to travel during the cooler months of the year. If you are not too bothered by a few evening rain showers, travel during the low season and save some money on hotels and travel. Go in high season if you want to make the most of the pool and relax in the sun.

Puerto Vallarta is an all-season holiday resort with something for everyone.
